As entrepreneurs, our business ideas and entry methods into new business terrains could be very challenging. There is a high probability that our business ideas are not novel coupled with the fact that there is stiff competition in the market place.
It is not unusual that every avenue we try to ply seems to end with a stumbling block. The business ideas we come across have been done by bigger, better and more sophisticated competitor.

PAST PERFORMANCE
Our obstacles could be on the basis of the competitor pass   performances, size and strength or our inability to entre certain desired markets
The arena we desire to explore may appear to  have major players with proven records of performance. A cartel or monopoly may exist. Other obstacles we may encounter are that the already existing players are seasoned and have years of experience on us and they have a seemingly endless source of funding for promotion, brand building and compensations to customers for patronage. Past performance cannot be discarded lightly however, saturated markets could mean that the big players are self-absorbed and focused on the other big competitors in the market.
This is advantageous in the sense that new players in the filed are unnoticed giving an opportunity to erode small shares of the competitors market share with alternative offerings to their clients.
SIZE OF COMPETITOR.
Size of the competitors in the market place can deter our entry into certain businesses, the competition seems to be everywhere and they seem to have  more knowledge of the business terrain and control the business environment. They are seasoned, have years of experience onus and may have an impressive customer base. However, our entry point in such a case may be for us to bring a wealth of non-core competence into the business of an already existing competitor or even instigate the merger of small players to make them a major player as well as get yourself into the game.
Size of the competitor can be an obstacle also, we must not forget that the big players are structured and not as flexible and take longer to respond to changes. Most are too big to maneuver quickly, they are in many cases far from direct contact with their end users, they may not be aware of all market trends existing.
There are many other obstacles we perceive that can be turned to opportunities as along as we keep in that every stumbling block in our path can be used as a stepping-stone to our destination. Keeping our focus on our goals and perseverance are necessary to keep on pushing ourselves. Thinking outside the box, innovative and creative ways are critical to our success in business.
